Kreator at Essen Orginal 2001

It was quiet for a while on the Kreator front, after the release of ‘Endorama’. An album with a different style. I noticed that Kreator announced a new album and that they will perform at a festival in their hometown Essen on August 31, 2001. Because it is almost around the corner, I decided to go to ‘Essen Orginal 2001’ a free music festival of the city Essen, held at the Kennedyplatz, right in the middele of the city.

We arrived early at the evening and went for a drink and a bite. There were a lot of market stalls. With our stomachs filled we went back to the square were it all is going to happen. Going to the frontrow during the last sounds of ‘Die Happy’ and we could wait for Kreator.

I was curious to the new songs and wondering if they keep the line of Endorama, or if they’re going back to a more aggresive sound. Well I was pleased to find out it was more aggresive again! With a lot of (black) smoke they kicked off. It was one of the first shows with the new gitarist Sami Yli-Sirniö. There were songs from all albums, even the more quiet/soft ‘Endorama’ was used in the set with ‘Golden Age’. Two new songs from the album ‘Violent Revolution’, which was released a couple of weeks after this gig.

Setlist:

  • Terrorzone
  • Phobia
  • Extreme Aggression
  • Renewal
  • Lost
  • Leave This World Behind
  • Pleasure to Kill
  • People of the Lie
  • Black Sunrise
  • Servant in Heaven – King in Hell
  • Terrible Certainty
  • Riot of Violence
  • Second Awakening *
  • Under the Guillotine

Encore:

  • Golden Age
  • Flag of Hate

There was not much merchandise. At least no shirts with tourdata. I bought a shirt with the design of the compilation album ‘Past Life Trauma’.
